Independence Day

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT SAN ACADEMY KAMAKOTI NAGAR (15.08.2022)

Freedom should not be something you have to deserve. It’s something you just naturally have. Something that no one can take away from you. It was a red letter day in the history of India when the country got her freedom on August 15, 1947. It took hundreds of years for us to break shackles of slavery. People of the country celebrate this day every year with great pomp and show. San Academy Kamakoti Nagar was not left far behind. India’s completion of 75 years of freedom was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect to the freedom fighters.

On this special occasion, the programme started with the march past by the band, followed by cubs, bulbuls, scouts and guides. The place behind them was taken up by the students and the teachers. The traditional auspicious Flag hoisting ceremony as a tribute to our Motherland was accompanied not only by the National Anthem but also the flag songs in Hindi and Tamil. Reading of the Flag Code followed closely behind. As a celebration of our sovereignty, the spirit of freedom and nationalism was well exhibited by the students and teachers throughout the day. In the cultural programme there was a spectrum of patriotic songs, speeches, role play, skit, mime and dance. Committed to the task of nation building, both faculty and students enlightened the audience on the contribution of unsung heroes of the Indian freedom struggle, spoke on the history and significance of the Independence Day and shed light on the special highlights of celebrations this year.

Speeches in Tamil, Hindi and English enlightened the audience as to what independence actually was, explained the theme of the year, the need to appreciate the freedom we have and the contribution of women in our freedom struggle. Thus, it was emphasised upon that we should not understand ourselves free of responsibilities towards India but we have to use it to shape our future. This was strongly put forward by the students of higher classes in the Group Discussion on topic: ‘Nation first, Always First’. Patriotic songs were sung with great feeling by the students in Hindi and Tamil. This parody of songs awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland. Important leaders took to centre stage, when students dressed up as they spoke about their contribution to the independence movement. Even if one had not heard about Jhansi Ki Rani, Bhagat Singh, Velu Nachiar and Thiruppur Kumaran, they would have gone home after gathering a lot of information about them.

There was theatricals too – of both kinds – with or without dialogues. The students unleashed a breathtaking stage performance – a one-act play taking us back decades, giving us the glimpse into the life of Thirupur Kumaran, his death and the subsequent bestowing on an appropriate title for him. One could understand the progress our country made after the release from bondage. Using body movements, facial expressions and hand gestures instead of words, the students walked the audience through the past seventy five years, in the form of mime.

The commencement of the entertainment programme was through a vibrant classical dance performance which was mesmerizing, powerful, and scintillating, while the conclusion was another compelling and dazzling dance with the contemporary style.

The day marked a successful celebration of independence with a rainbow of cultural programs prepared under the able stewardship of our teachers for this auspicious occasion and due homage and honour expressed towards the people who played their part in the independence of the country. The hidden talent of our young citizens was on display with their wonderful insights and colourful thoughts.

A Truly Remarkable Day
