Curriculum

Kindergarten

We at San Academy have designed a unique curriculum largely based on the theory of multiple intelligences developed by Howard Gardner, a psychologist at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Professor Howard Gardner’s famous Theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI) states that every child has eight types of intelligences.

Naturalist intelligence: Naturalist intelligence is the ability to use all senses to observe details.

Intrapersonal intelligence: Intrapersonal intelligence is about self-Awareness. Recognizing your own strength and weaknesses helps in planning your life.

Linguistic intelligence: Linguistic intelligence is about word smart. Thinking, speaking and writing are expressions of this intelligence.

Spatial intelligence: Spatial intelligence is the ability to think in three dimensional terms and often involves an active imagination and visualization.

Musical intelligence: Musical intelligence is evident in people who are responsive to pitch, melody, rhythm and tone.

Logical thinking intelligence: Reasoning and recognizing patterns and relationships are the key aspects to this intelligence.

Interpersonal intelligence: Interpersonal intelligence involves sensitivity to both verbal and non-verbal communication. Good personal and working relationships are built using this intelligence.

Bodily Kinesthetic intelligence: Bodily Kinesthetic intelligence is about whole-body and fine-motor co-ordination. Dancers, athletes and craftsmen excel in this intelligence.

Our kindergarten curriculum lays emphasis on developing all the given aspects of the child. The sum of this curriculum is that every child in our school is uniquely intelligent. Our curriculum will ensure that your child loves the school and he/she will step into formal education with confidence and enthusiasm.

Student Assessment

Assessing each pupil’s skill and progress is essential to train them with special attention and hence the school has adopted the assessment structure in accordance with the “Central Board of Secondary Education”.

(i) Progress Card

KG – Assessment card for the student will be given for each term during the open house.

Primary & Middle School – Students will be graded both in Scholastic and Co-scholastic activities for Term-I and Term-II. Report card will be given twice a year during the open house.

Secondary – Students will be graded both in Scholastic and Co-scholastic activities for Term-I and Term-II. Report card will be given once a year during the open house.

(ii) Classes I to V

For classes I to V students are assessed on various parameters through oral, Periodic tests, subject enrichment activities and daily class performances throughout the year for all the subjects.

General Knowledge, Environmental Education, Physical Education, Skills in Art, Music and Dance, Computer Education and Aptitude skills are assessed regularly.

(iii) Classes VI to VII

Students of classes 6 to 7 follow a uniform assessment scheme with a two-term system that includes Half Yearly and Annual examinations. The scholastic area is assessed for 80 percent marks through term examination and 20 marks through internal assessment in which 5 marks from Periodic Tests, 5 marks from Portfolio, 5 marks from Multiple Assessment and 5 marks from Subject Enrichment Activity.

They will also be graded on a three-point scale in the non-scholastic activities of Work Education, Art Education, and Health and Physical Education. The factors on which they will be graded are regularity, participation, output and teamwork. The annual exams will be based on the syllabus of the second half of the year, along with a certain percentage of the Half Yearly syllabus.

General Proficiency

General proficiency certificate is awarded to students who perform consistently well in scholastic areas. The student who secures the highest overall aggregate during Term I / Term II from a section will be awarded the general proficiency certificate.

Guidance & Counselling

Educational planning and services are coordinated in collaboration with parents towards the best interest of the students who are academically slow learners under the effective guidance of the School Counselor.

Addressing a student’s personal/social needs through counselling develops resiliency skills and attends to the student’s readiness for educational and social challenges. Hence Counselling is focused on establishing and assisting students in enhancing their academic/social achievements. However in case of a student requiring specialized, intensive or long-term counselling beyond what the school may reasonably provide, appropriate referrals are made.

Skill Development

The school emphasizes on the physical literacy in children focussing on the fundamentals according to their stage of physical, mental and emotional development which are taught through several indoor, outdoor games and activities. The diverse needs and the abilities of students may require special attention to make them attain heights in their area of specialization and hence we ensure that special care and attention is rendered to each child to help them deliver the best.

Learning Outcomes are Assessed both at Primary Levels

Learning Outcomes are assessment standards indicating the expected levels of learning that children should achieve for that class. These outcomes can be used as check points to assess learning at different points of time. The learning outcomes would help teachers to understand the learning levels of children in their respective classes individually as well as collectively. It should be the point of reference for conducting achievement surveys. It also serves to make learning purposeful and progressive while promoting the achievement of educational aims and objectives in a planned and positive manner. Based on the curricular expectations for each subject , a set of Learning Outcomes for each class has been added along with the lesson plan as prescribed by CBSE.
