At San Academy Velachery everyday is a celebration of learning not a day goes by without celebrating both Indian and International Days festivals and subjects of learning. A look at our diary shows that San Academy Velachery is filled with celebrations of Days, Festivals and Themes of knowledge of both National and International level. So that our students grow as global citizens.
Culture is a strong binding force in societies and every individual is rooted in a culture that influences his/her life style and attitude towards life. In San, we train students’ right from childhood to experience various cultures through the celebration of all religious festivals and develop tolerance, love understanding, and respect for all communities-thus paving way for a harmonious social living. San Academy provide an open-minded outlook towards life that encompasses everything that is natural, good and promotes positive values. At San, we believe in the ‘Brotherhood of Mankind’ and the ‘Fatherhood of God’ as an Omni-present and Omni-potent force. Major festivals of all religions are celebrated with religious fervor to promote tolerance and love for all races and creeds. The presence of students from all over India and abroad provides a cosmopolitan setup that broadens the horizons of interaction among children and we build a future of students who are appreciate and respect oneness and respect for all.
Tamil new year which usually falls on April 14th is an occasion that calls for celebration. This is the day when Lord Brahma started creation. People exchange greetings of “PuthanduVazhthukal” with great fervor on this day.
Tamil new year day begins with viewing the “Kanni” at down, out of expectation that by looking at auspicious things will bring good luck all through the year. It is followed by peoples taking bath and then visiting the temple.
In order to inculcate these traditional values in children we celebrated tamil new year on 12th April. Preparation for celebration started the previous day evening by decorating the stage and notice board. On 12th morning few teachers and support staffs decorated the entrance with “kolam”. Things required for pooja is made ready along with “MaangaiPachadi”, the highlight of the tamil new year, as it tastes sweet, sour and spicy.
Raghav and Lekha of class V hosted the celebration. It started with introduction speech by SaiVarshini of Sr.Kg. Children of Sr.Kg. grabbed the attention of audience with their magical voice for tamil song.
Arvindhakshan, Dhiya Sri, Thamizh and Abinaya of class V explained about “ChithiraiThiruvzha” and rituals followed on the day. This was followed by tamil group song by class I children.
Our little tots of Jr.Kg were traditionally dressed to perform a tamil group song. The pride of tamiliansThirukural was recited by LohithAbhinav of Sr.Kg. Children of class III came up with a dance performance for tamil song, followed by tamil group song of class II. The celebration ended with a grand and jaw dropping performance by our class IV children for a tamil folk song.
Ramzan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship. In order to inculcate the knowledge of religious practices associated with this festival we at SAN Academy celebrated Ramzan on 7th June in our School Campus.
Rehan of class IV B spoke about importance of Ramzan and their duties and rights to be performed during the month of Ramzan.
Mariam of class IV B performed the namaz the foremost duty of every Muslim. During Ramzan special prayers are offered to the divine almighty for the peace and prosperity of the world and the people who dwell with it.
World Music Day was celebrated at SAN Academy Velachery Campus. On this day the citizens are allowed to play music in public spaces and parks. Free concerts are also organized where musicians play for fun and not for payment.
So, students and teachers gave impressive performances to celebrate this day.
We celebrated “Independence Day” with patriotic fervor. We appreciate the sincere participation of students and parents early that morning. The celebration started with guard of honor by scouts and guides which was followed by flag hoisting. The air was filled with patriotism when the National Anthem was played. Followed by March past of scouts and guides. Group of primary teachers sung “Ai Mere Vatan” which made us to sink in patriotism. Students of Class III, IV and V delivered a speech on independence day. A depiction of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre as miming show by Class IV and V students. This was followed by speech of Chief Guest and Vote of Thanks
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Devotees believe that LordGanesha as the symbol of wisdom bestows his presence on earth during this festival and removes all their obstacles.
We celebrated GaneshaChaturthi at our SAN Academy Velachery Campus. Children were dressed up traditionally. Speech and slogan recitation were performed by students. The important instances of Lord Ganesha’s life was portrayed in various skits by students.
Navarathri is one of the most important festivals, celebrated to worship the goddess Durga. It is essentially a nine day festival where nine different forms of Devidurga are worshipped.The making of dolls of kolu for display on wooden steps marks the celebration at Tamil Nadu, a bit different from rest of India. Further more as the evening dawns, relative pay a visit to each other’s home and exchange gifts where they enjoy the devotional melodies and some Chundal and Sweets.
In order to inculcate this rituals of Navarathri, we celebrated the festival with Kolu and Devotional songs by teachers. Teachers also gave speech about navarathri celebration and importance. We finally ended the celebration with pooja and offering prashad to children.
The festival of lights is celebrated with much enthusiasm as the defeat of Narakasura. Lighting the dark corners of our life and filling it with happiness is Diwali. Rituals we follow for this festival are oil bathin the early morning. Pooja with sweets and savories made. New clothes and crackers are kept along with the other important things for pooja.
In order to enlighten our children with the knowledge of the ritual on this day, we celebrated Diwali at SAN Academy, Velachery Campus. Speech about the festival and skit depicted Diwali celebration. Children enjoyed dance performance by primary students and finally ended with bursting crackers.
Children’s Day was celebrated with full fervor at SAN Academy Velachery on 14th November. This best day of children was celebrated on the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.
Children’s day is celebrated as a tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru because of his endless love and affection towards children. With the same love and affection we organized programs which would bring joy to our children and we made them feel special on this day y allowing them to come in color dress. Children enjoyed funny dance, group song and group dance by teachers. Finally the celebration ended with “Cool Hand Beat” taught by a group of teachers for the song “DammaDamma”
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body.
International Yoga Day was celebrated by our students and teachers amidst much pomp and gaiety at our Velachery campus. Students observed this day with great enthusiasm and fervor. Students of class IV & V demonstrated various asanas followed by speeches on their significance and benefits. The occasion was presided over by Mrs. Chidambara Lakshmi who is a renowned Yoga enthusiast and music teacher. She reckoned many benefits of early rising and practicing yoga.
Krishna Jayanthi is annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. We celebrated Krishna Jayanthi at our school SAN Academy, Velachery campus. We were able to sense the presence of Lord Krishna through various programs organized.
The celebration started with greeting Little Krishna song, then the idol of Krishna was placed in the cradle. We had Bhajan and dance performance by children to celebrate the joy of Krishna birth. The Kuchipudi dance by Haritha was marvelous as she mimed the drama through the expressions of her eyes and hand. Akshay and Ananya of Jr. Kg. gave a speech on Krishna Jayanthi. The celebration ended with a wonderful dance performance by our primary parents.
Madras Week is not just about celebrating a colonial past as many have unfortunately depicted it. It is all about cherishing what is good in our city and making it known to everyone. Are any of the achievements listed from our colonial times? Hardly. All of them are peaks that we have scaled as an independent people. Is it not necessary to take some time off and look back at what we have attained?
We at San joined together in celebrating the feeling of residing in such an illustrious city that we hold so close to our heart and souls. Speeches highlighting the iconic landmarks of Chennai, traditional instruments of music, Dances featuring the folk artform – Paraiattam, Martial arts – Silambattam and a flash mob dance to a foot-tapping album by our kids kept the audience glued to their seats. Stalls that were put up in the campus serving delectable local gastronomic delights proved to be huge crowd-pullers.
Fitness week celebration endeavors to alter the behaviour from “Passive screen time” to “Active Field time” and the aim of the objective is to develop sports quotient among all the students to achieve healthy lifestyle. To emphasize on this, our school San Academy - Velachery has conducted lot of activities which are a balanced mix of physical and mental exercises. Below are the activities incorporated along with the morning assembly regarding the fitness.
